5 January 2018 --Ministers and leaders of the ICT global community gathered at the 15th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) hosted by the International Telecommunication Union last 14-16 November 2017.

Some of the plenary sessions focused on:

  • Fostering a healthy investment climate with better data
  • Big data to measure the information society
  • New data needs and emerging technologies for the digital economy
  • Smart data and new metrics for broadband and cybersecurity.

The main highlight of the 3-day symposium is the launch of the 2017 Measuring the Information Society Report, which ranked 176 countries according to the ITU ICT Development Index (IDI) score. The Philippines ranked 101st for this year--a one-step decline from last year's 100th, however, the country's IDI score improved from 4.52 to 4.67.

More information on the symposium may be found on the WTIS page.
